Rajesh Sakariya, arrested for attacking Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a public hearing last week, had planned to attack him with a knife, sources told NDTV on Monday. 41 -year -old Sakariya, a resident of Rajkot in Gujarat, told the police that he had attacked Rekha Gupta on August 20, as Rekha Gupta allegedly ignored his appeal against the removal of stray dogs from Delhi. Official sources said on Monday that the Center has withdrawn the CRPF security of Z -class given to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. He was provided this protection after the attack on him a few days ago. Official sources gave this information on Monday. Sources said that the responsibility of their safety has been again handed over to the Delhi Police.

Chief Minister Gupta (51) was attacked by a person during a ‘public hearing’ program in his office in Civil Lines area on the morning of 20 August. The Chief Minister’s Office described the attack as part of the “planned conspiracy of his murder”. A day after the incident, the Union Home Ministry had directed the ‘VIP’ security branch of CRPF to be given to specific persons under the Center to provide them protection under the ‘Z’ category security protocol of the Center. Sources said that CRPF security has been withdrawn and now Delhi Police is providing security to the Chief Minister.

He said that the order to increase CRPF security was to be formally issued by the Center but the plan was changed and orders were issued to withdraw security. Delhi Police has so far arrested two people in connection with the investigation of the attack on the Chief Minister. It also includes auto driver Sakaria Rajeshbhai Khimji (41), who is a resident of Rajkot, Gujarat.
