US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that his country is stopping issuing labor visas for commercial truck drivers. Rubio announced the move on the social media forum ‘X’, saying that this change has come into force with immediate effect.
He said, “The increasing number of foreign drivers running large tractor-trailers on American roads is endangering the lives of American citizens and damaging the livelihood of American truck drivers.”
The Ministry of External Affairs did not answer the question how many foreign truck drivers are working in the US. The Trump administration has taken steps to ensure that the truck drivers are skilled in speaking and reading in the last few months.
The Transport Department said that its objective is to improve road safety, as people have lost their lives in many road accidents due to drivers’ English speaking or signs.
