Online gaming bill gets President’s approval, provision of law, jail and one crore fine

President Draupadi Murmu on Friday approved the promotion and regulation bill of online gaming, which was passed by the Rajya Sabha a day earlier. This law banned all online money gaming services and provides for imprisonment of up to three years and fines of up to Rs 1 crore for those who provide convenience. There is a provision for a punishment of up to two years and a fine of up to Rs 50 lakh for advertising such platforms.

The Upper House passed the online gaming promotion and regulation Bill, 2025 in 26 minutes. A day earlier, the Lok Sabha passed it in seven minutes amid opposition from the opposition over procedural concerns. Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told MPs in Parliament that people are losing their lifetime deposits in online money gaming. Vaishnav said in the Rajya Sabha that from time to time the society struggles with social evils. In such a situation, it is the duty of the government and Parliament to investigate them and make laws to control them.

The minister said, “When you have to worry about the revenue of the society and the government, then between these two Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always chosen the middle class family (Kalyan), has always chosen the benefits of the society, never compromised it. And in this bill also, the welfare of the society has been given priority. “He said,” This bill has been brought to avoid a huge evil coming in the society. ”

The Bill has provisions to ban online ‘money gaming’ or its advertisements and it provides imprisonment or fine for those present or advertising.
