Congress MP Jairam Ramesh on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) and accused the Election Commission of working under pressure from the Central Government. He said that when the Speaker ruled on July 21, why did he ask for the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar? What message did they want to give? When democracy is being killed, the Election Commission of India is not giving any response to “vote theft” and the Chief Election Commissioner is threatening the Leader of Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, the votes of 65 lakh people are being taken away.

Talking to ANI, the Congress leader questioned the relevance of parliamentary proceedings in such circumstances and said that when there is no democracy or constitution in the country, what is the meaning of zero hour and Question Hour? The senior Congress leader accused the government of deliberately removing the names of voters in a special intensive revision (SIR) campaign targeting Dalits and OBCs. He alleged, “This is not the ‘Election Commission’, but ‘steal commission’. Only the names of voters are being removed in the SIR process. Prime Minister Modi and the Union Home Minister have asked the Election Commission of India to adopt this process as they know that Dalits and backward classes will not vote for BJP, but India will vote for coalition. They want to take away votes because this is the only way to win elections.”
Meanwhile, another Congress leader KC Venugopal expressed confidence in giving justice to Bihar by the Supreme Court, expressing concern over the issues of voter list in Bihar. Speaking to ANI, Venugopal said that during a visit led by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav in Bihar, people have offered “concrete evidence” to remove the names of real voters from the voter list. He said that I think the Supreme Court will give justice to Bihar. This is a common belief. There are some real issues related to SIR in Bihar. Rahul ji and Tejashwi ji are traveling in Bihar, and people are complaining to them with concrete evidence. We can see how many real voters’ names have been removed. We expect justice from the Supreme Court.
