Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Thursday urged the Central Government to rethink the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill as a ‘democracy’ step.
Mayawati said in a post on ‘X’, “The 130th Constitution Amendment Bill, brought amidst a huge uproar in Parliament by the Central Government, in the political situation in the country, it seems clearly to weaken democracy in the country and the ruling parties will mostly misuse it in their benefits, selfishness and malice, such a public will be expected.
He said, “So our party does not agree with this bill at all. The government must rethink it in the interest of democracy and constitution of the country.” The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025 provides for the removal of Prime Minister, Ministers and Chief Ministers from the post on allegations of serious crime. The bill was sharply opposed by the opposition members and described the proposed law against the spirit of constitution and federalism.
