In fact, according to the report of Indian Express, BCCI decided to retain Ajit Agarkar a few months ago. The BCCI was very happy with the achievements in Indian cricket after his arrival.
In June 2023, Ajit Agarkar was given this big responsibility, after which he gave India many successes. Eliminated the drought of victory at the ICC event. India won the T20 World Cup 2024 title in 2024 and won the Champions Trophy in early 2025. India also made it to the final of the ODI World Cup in 2023.
Agark’s tenure is also defined by strategic leadership change. The selectors under him handed over the test captaincy to Shubman Gill and commanded Suryakumar Yadav to the T20 team. The team also had to go through the decision of retirement of veterans like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin. Kohli and Rohit are now playing only in ODIs. Ashwin has retired from all formats.
The current selection committee includes MS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra and S Sharath along with Ajit Agarkar. However, there is a possibility of change in the panel in the meeting of the BCCI’s general general meeting to be held in September.
According to the report, Sharath, who presided over the Junior Selection Committee in January 2023, is expected to be removed as he arrives close to four years in the selection role which is the maximum period of time permissible under the BCCI criteria.
