Due to heavy rains in Karnataka, the danger of flooding in Krishna river basin, administration issued warning

Due to continuous rains around the Krishna River Basin, a flood -like situation has arisen in the area, causing an alert to the authorities and the local administration. Both district administrations have set up care centers and have taken the affected people to safe places. 2.5 lakh cusecs of water is being released from the Almetti dam. Sources in Krishna Bhagya Jal Nigam Limited, Almetti Dam said that the average flow of water was 1.6 lakh cusecs at 6 pm on Wednesday and the current outflow was 2.5 lakh cusecs.

According to officials, the water level of Krishna river has increased due to huge amount of water from Maharashtra, which has created a flood -like situation. He also informed that all 30 gates of Baswa Sagar reservoir, also known as Narayanpur Dam, have been opened due to continuous rains and heavy water from Maharashtra.
Authorities have released 1.60 lakh cusecs of water from Baswa Sagar reservoir, which disrupted road connectivity and drowned the Sheilhalli bridge. The Shilhalli Hunchanan Bridge is also submerged, which has lost contact with villages like Kaddaragddi, Yarigodi and Hunchanal.Along with the Krishna River, the Bhima river is also flowing near the danger mark due to heavy rains. In addition, the Malprabha river basin has also received heavy rainfall, which has increased concern among the local people.

Possibility of continuing heavy rains for next 7 days
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of widespread rainfall for the next seven days, especially in coastal and northern internal districts. The Meteorological Department has estimated that on August 26, Dakshin Kannada, Udupi and North Kannada districts may receive heavy rains. In addition, Bidar, Kalburgi and Yadgir are also likely to cause thunderstorms and strong winds.
Light rain in the next 48 hours in Bengaluru
