Government introduced the bill to regulate online gaming in Lok Sabha, know about it

The Central Government on Wednesday introduced the online gaming promotion and regulation Bill, 2025 in the Lok Sabha. For the purpose of promoting innovation and safety of citizens, the Bill aims to promote e-sports and online social games, as well as banning online money games that pouring financial, psychological and social risk. The bill also emphasizes the responsible use of technology, strong consumer safety measures and protection of national security.

While introducing the bill, the government said that in the last decade, digital techniques have changed daily life. Riving initiatives such as Digital India, Digital Public Infrastructure, UPI Payment System, 5G connectivity and growing semiconductor ecosystem have given the country a new global identity. The document states that it is equally important to ensure that society is protected from the possible damage to the misuse of technology. With this thinking, the government has introduced the online gaming promotion and regulation Bill, 2025.
The bill has provisions to ban online ‘money gaming’ or its advertisements and it provides imprisonment or fine for those present or advertising. The bill also provides for the establishment of an authority for promoting, regulating, regulating it, regulating it, and its strategic development and regulation. The bill has prohibited the proposal, operation, simplification, advertisement, publicity and participation of online ‘money game’ online through a computer, mobile equipment or internet, especially where such activities operate across the state borders or from abroad.

The Bill states that its objective is to protect people, especially youth and weaker sections from adverse social, economic, psychological and privacy effects of such sports, to ensure responsibility of digital technologies with responsibility, maintain public system, protect public health, protect the security and sovereignty of the state and establish a national level legal structure in public interest.
