Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday introduced three bills in the Lok Sabha, under which the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers of the states and union territories will be removed from the post if they are arrested for 30 consecutive days. The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said that we are going back in the medieval period when the king could remove anyone from his will, or if he did not like anyone’s face, he could ask the ED to arrest him, and a democratically chosen person could be taken out within 30 days.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday condemned the introduction of three controversial bills, which provides for the removal of the Prime Minister or Chief Ministers from the post after spending 30 days in jail on serious charges. He said that this step is taking the country in the medieval period. Three bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday to provide the provision of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers and Ministers detained for 30 consecutive days, and the House decided to send the Joint Committee of Parliament to the Joint Committee of Parliament to study for 30 consecutive days. Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the ‘Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025’, ‘Union Territory of Government (Amendment) Bill, 2025’ and ‘Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2025’ amid opposition and uproar by the opposition.

Later on his proposal, the House decided to send the three Bills to the Joint Committee of Parliament. The objectives and reasons of the bills states that a minister who is facing allegations of serious punishable offenses is arrested and kept in custody, then he can fail or obstruct the principles of constitutional morality and the principles of good governance and ultimately reduce the trust expressed by people. According to this, there is no provision under the Constitution to remove such a minister which is arrested under serious punishable allegations.
