Indian and Chinese officials met in New Delhi to negotiate border dispute. The meeting between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is considered an important step towards improving bilateral relations before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. The interaction focused on reconstruction of mutual belief, management of disagreements and stabilizing boundaries. The Chinese Foreign Minister said that a healthy and stable China-India relationship fulfills the basic and long-term interests of both countries. The two sides are working to further strengthen the consent made during the 23rd round of special representative dialogue and their leaders in Kazan last October. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said that positive trends are visible towards returning to cooperation in India-China relations. Yi also emphasized that the two countries should see each other not as rival but as partners. Official media gave this information in a report on Tuesday.

Wang made this comment during a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. His visit took place before the proposed visit to China to attend the annual summit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). In the meeting, Wang told Jaishankar that there are positive trends towards returning to cooperation in China-India relation. He said that this year 75 years of establishing diplomatic relations between China and India have been completed and a lesson can be learned from the past. His statement was a clear indication towards the rift in relations in more than four years after the military deadlock in Eastern Ladakh.
