Amidst a strong objection to the allegations of vote theft in Bihar and the special intensive revision (SIR) campaign, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji said on Tuesday that the Election Commission of India (ECI) should work democratically and resolve the doubts raised by the opposition parties. Defending Rahul Gandhi’s statement, attacking Bharat Mata, Majhi said that the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha only wants to protect the constitution and ensure that there is no tampering of the franchise of the people.

Rajya Sabha MP told ANI that Rahul Gandhi is the leader of the opposition and as a citizen of the country, it is a great responsibility for him and all of us to protect democracy. He wants the constitution to protect, protect democracy and there should be no tamper with the franchise of the people. The Election Commission should work democratically. Referring to the tenure of TN Seshan as the tenth Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Maji argued that the constitutional institution should work neutrally and avoid a situation where his functioning arises.

Mahua Maji said that if he or the public has any doubt, the Election Commission should ensure transparency, just as TN Seshan was the Chief Election Commissioner. Then no one had a finger on the Election Commission. Such institutions should focus on why fingers are being raised on them. Such a situation should not come at all. The opposition should say that the Election Commission is working impartially. If the opposition has any doubt, it should be resolved.
Former bureaucrat Seshan, who served as the tenth election commissioner of India, has left a legacy in which he said that he is the Chief Election Commissioner of India, not of the Government of India. His remarks came after Rahul Gandhi started his ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ in Bihar. He had warned a sharp attack on the Election Commission and its officials that strict action would be taken against them if they “do not do their work”. He had said that “vote theft” is an attack on the Constitution and Bharat Mata.
