Preparations started to remove Deputy Chairman in NEPAL, emergency meeting called

The Nepali ruling coalition of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML (Nepal Communist Party- Integrated Marxist Leninist) is preparing to make another effort to remove Deputy Chairman Indira Rana Magar. According to leaders of both parties, an emergency meeting has been called on Tuesday to remove Deputy Chairman Magar, which Prime Minister Oli has described as a weak and biased performance. A CPN-UML leader confirmed ANI, an emergency meeting of the CPN-UML parliamentary party is being called to discuss the matter.

Another ruling coalition, Nepali Congress also called a parliamentary party meeting later in the afternoon to discuss the removal of Deputy Chairman, another leader of Nepali Congress confirmed this to ANI. The ruling coalition has also started a signature collection campaign to remove Deputy Chairman from the post, where some MPs have already signed their support to remove them from the post. Since according to the Constitution, the Deputy Chairman requires a two-thirds majority to remove the post and the ruling alliance is lagged behind it, the leaders also confirmed ANI that consultation with small parties is also going on.

The House of Representatives currently has 274 members and the ruling alliance needs 183 votes, but Nepali Congress currently has only 88 and CPN-UML has only 79 seats, leading to the total number of votes to 167. The ruling coalition has a shortage of 16 votes to remove the Deputy Chairman from the post. In the ruling coalition, Janata Samajwadi Party has 7 seats, Janmat 6, Democratic Samajwadi Party 4 and Civil Mukti Party has four seats. A leader of the ruling party told ANI, “It is not clear whether all parties in the government will vote in favor of the proposal or not. Discussions are going on to gather their support.
