Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday gave a tough challenge to the Election Commission to clarify the controversial issue of ‘vote theft’ and accused the Election Commission of avoiding accountability. He also praised Rahul Gandhi’s bravery and said that he would not be distracted by any attack and will not back down despite distracted circumstances. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, the Congress MP said, “On this ‘vote theft’ issue, he (Election Commission) should tell the truth to the public. Rahul ji will not be afraid of any attack, will bear everything and will not back down. Because they are not able to answer the questions raised by Rahul ji, so they start talking about affidavit, Nehru ji and Indira ji.”

Amid the increasing opposition from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against the Election Commission, Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, reiterated on Tuesday that the alleged vote theft in the assembly and Lok Sabha elections is “murder of the Constitution”. He said that if the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) “sit on the throne” through such electoral disturbances, then democracy will be damaged.

Saying that the party wants to create an atmosphere to warn people against rigging, theft and molestation of votes, Kharge told reporters outside Parliament that it is our party’s attitude that we want to create an atmosphere against theft, rigging and molestation of votes across the country, that people are getting injustice. He further said that if he steals such a stone and sits on the throne, then it is not beneficial for democracy. This is the murder of the Constitution.

Earlier, today, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensified its protests outside the Parliament House against the allegations of “vote theft” on the Election Commission of India and the special intensive revision campaign in Bihar. Congress President Kharge, MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other prominent leaders were present in the protest. Protests continue since the Election Commission has been protesting since the Election Commission allegations of “vote theft” and clarification on SIR. The Election Commission has also asked the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha to submit a signed affidavit with evidence of his claims of rigging in the election.
