The Government Medical College (GMC) and the hospital, one of the major health institutions of Jammu and Kashmir, played a leading role in dealing with the medical crisis arising out of the cloudburst in Kishtwar and saved their lives by complex surgery of 25 seriously injured people. The officers provided this information.
Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal of GMC Jammu, said, “On the night of August 14, 66 injured patients were brought to GMC Jammu. The same night about 25 major surgery was done to save the lives of the people.”
He said that medical care continued the next day and more surgery was done. The disaster came to Chishoti village on the way to Machal Mata temple on August 14 at around 12:30 pm, killing 60 people and injured more than 100.
So far 82 people are said to be missing after the floods due to cloudburst, including 81 pilgrims and a soldier of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
