Nature havoc in Pakistan, more than 300 deaths due to sudden flood, rescuers could not survive

Torrential rains in the northwestern part of Pakistan and sudden floods have caused heavy havoc, causing more than 300 people to die in just 24 hours. The dead include five crew members of a rescue helicopter, who were trying to help the flood victims.

City, villages and roads submerged in water

Rivers and drains are in spate, and water is filled in roads and houses. This disastrous flood has uprooted trees and has destroyed all the infrastructure that comes in its way. Landslides have also occurred in many places due to torrential rains, causing roads and many areas have lost contact.

The pictures going viral on social media are seen in water, floating cars and rescuers, who are struggling to save people amidst this severe devastation.

According to the Associated Press, Buner Deputy Commissioner Kashif Qayyum said that most of the deaths have occurred in Pir Baba and Malik Pura villages, where primary premeditators are still working to evacuate the bodies.

The number of dead may increase

According to a report by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 307 people have died in this disaster so far, out of which 184 people were killed in Buner alone. There have been large number of deaths in other districts, such as 36 in Shangla, 23 in Manshehra and 22 in Swat.

A PDMA spokesperson said that the number of dead and injured may increase further, as many people are still missing. Meanwhile, a relief helicopter crashed in Bajaur near Afghan border due to bad weather, killing all five crew members. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has chaired an emergency meeting to review the situation of this flood.
