At the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India was working towards self -sufficiency in the space sector. He confirmed that the country is preparing for its first indigenous human spacecraft mission, Gaganyaan. PMModi also said that India is developing its own space station. He informed that Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who was recently part of the Axiom-4 private space mission, has returned to Earth and will return to India in the coming days.

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on the occasion of Independence Day that India is working towards becoming self -sufficient in the space sector and is preparing for its indigenous human space mission Gaganyaan. Addressing the countrymen from the ramparts of the Red Fort, he said, “The country is proud of our space sector. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is back from the space station … He will return to India in the coming days. ”

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is working on it and can be launched in 2027. The Prime Minister said, “We will build our own space station.”

Space station plan to start by 2035 

The first module of its space station in India is planned to start in 2028 and the full -fledged Indian Space Station 2035. The Prime Minister also said that the reforms brought in recent times have enabled more than 300 start-ups that are working in the space sector. He said, “Thousands of youth are working on it. This is the power of our youth … This is our faith in our youth. ”

Shubhanshu Shukla went to space on 25 June 2025 under the Ex-4 mission. He stayed at the International Space Station (ISS) 18 days and returned on July 15, during which he also conducted several experiments. Shukla, Group Captain in the Indian Air Force and a native of Lucknow, is the second Indian to visit the space after the 1984 mission of Rakesh Sharma and the first Indian to visit ISS.

39-year-old Indian Air Force officer and Test pilot Shukla completed his first space trip under the ‘Acim-4’ mission. It was a commercial space flight, which was supported by ISRO and NASA and was operated by the Ex -Space.
