US President Donald Trump and Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin are scheduled to meet for a much awaited meeting in Alaska on Friday. The main objective of this summit is to discuss ways to establish peace in Ukraine. Trump has said that he will decide in the initial minutes of the meeting whether the conversation will be successful or not. He also claimed that Putin would have captured the entire Ukraine if he had not been a President.

CNN quoted Trump as saying, ‘We will find out what everyone’s attitude is. And I will know in the first two minutes, three minutes, four minutes or five minutes that our meeting will be good or bad. And if it is a bad meeting, it will end very quickly. And if this is a good meeting, then we will establish peace in the near future.

Both leaders stand on war and peace

Trump has been saying for a long time that if he had been a President, there would not have been a Ukraine war. He again reiterated on Thursday that this war should never have happened. ‘ At the same time, Russian External Affairs Minister Sergei Lavarov has hoped for ‘useful dialogue’ from this meeting. This is Putin’s first visit to the western soil after ordering an attack on Ukraine in February 2022.

Ukraine’s response

Just before this meeting, Russia has not indicated to slow down its military progress on the ground.
