I stand as a wall for the interests of farmers, PM Modi’s shout from Red Fort, Trump challenged

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech stressed that his government will never compromise with the interests of farmers. He said that the farmers and fishermen of India are the priority of the government. Modi also said that ‘Modi is standing as a wall’, that is, he is fully committed to protect the interests of farmers.

This statement comes at a time when there is a deadlock over the trade agreement between India and the US. US President Donald Trump is pressurizing India to open its market for US agriculture and dairy products, but India is giving priority to the security of its domestic agriculture. Amidst this deadlock, Trump has also imposed 25% tariff on India.

The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of ‘self -sufficient India’ and said that depending on others can cause disaster, so we have to become self -sufficient to protect our interests. He informed that the government has identified about 100 such districts where farmers need additional assistance and for this the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana has been started.

Self -sufficiency in energy and technology

In his speech, the Prime Minister also emphasized self -sufficiency in the field of energy and technology. He said that India is working to become energy-independence. He said that India’s solar power capacity has increased by 30 times in the last 11 years. Currently ten new nuclear reactors are working. India aims to increase its nuclear power capacity ten times till the completion of 100 years of independence.

In addition, the Prime Minister described the ’21st century as a technology-operated century’ and said that ‘chips made in India’ would come in the market by the end of this year. He also called for developing indigenous engines and its fertilizer for fighter aircraft to promote the ‘Make in India’ campaign.
