India and China are ready to resume direct flights from September. This announcement will probably be made when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the eastern neighboring country in late August – as the two countries want to re -establish political relations after years of tension. This is also a time when both Asian veteran President Donald Trump is involved in a dispute with the US over the trade charges being levied. The Government of India has allegedly asked all airline companies in the country to prepare flights to China soon. It is expected to be officially announced around the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit to be held in China later this month.

IndiGo has already been asked to start preparations. Direct flights between India and China were stopped after the Kovid-19 epidemic spread, causing people to travel via centers such as Hong Kong or Singapore. In June 2020, the diplomatic relations between the two Asian giants also deteriorated after clashes on the border in the Galwan Valley of East Ladakh. In this clash, 20 Indian soldiers and at least four Chinese soldiers were killed. In the backdrop of clashes, Delhi took several steps against Beijing, including a ban on Chinese mobile application. China described the ban as “discriminatory” and considered the issue to be taken to the World Trade Organization.

Last month, India announced the resumption of tourist visa for Chinese citizens, which was a step towards generalization relative to bilateral relations that reached their lowest level after military deadlock over the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Prior to suspension, Indian airlines like Air India and IndiGo operated directly among major cities. More than a dozen direct flights were operated every week, connecting cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhu and Kunming with New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Air China, China Southern and China Eastern also operated direct services.
