In Tamil Nadu, the elderly and disabled people will no longer have to line up for ration. Under the ‘Mukhyamantri Thiyanavar Yojana’, the government will deliver the necessary ration including rice and sugar to senior citizens and disabled people above 70 years of age, which will give them direct benefits.
The Tamil Nadu government said that Chief Minister MK Stalin will launch a plan to deliver ration to the house of more than 21 lakh beneficiaries and disabled – on Tuesday. An official release stated that Stalin will launch the “Chief Minister Thiyanavar Yojana” here, under which ration materials including rice and sugar will be transported to the homes of the desired beneficiaries.

Under this scheme, senior citizens above 70 years of age and disabled ration card holders are target beneficiaries. The release said that about 20.42 lakh senior citizens and more than 1.27 lakh disabled people will benefit from this scheme. Under this initiative, every other Saturday and Sunday will be delivered from house to house ration. Details related to the Department of Food and Consumer Protection have already been obtained and have been shared with the concerned regional employees.

According to the release, the employees will deliver ration to the eligible beneficiaries. Under this initiative, they will also be provided an electronic weight weighing machine and E-POS (Point of Sale) machine. The release said, “The government will spend Rs 30.16 crore on this public welfare step and the government aims to ensure the welfare of the marginalized sections of the society.”
