The Delhi High Court on Friday bails Syed Ahmed Shakeel, the elder son of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, but dismissed the bail petition of Salahuddin’s younger son Shahid Yusuf. His younger brother Yusuf, who was working in the Agriculture Department of Jammu and Kashmir, was arrested in October 2017. Yusuf was accused of receiving funds from Pakistan for terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir and a charge sheet was filed against him in the case in 2019. On the other hand, Shakeel was accused of raising, receiving and gathering money from terrorist organizations through an active cadre in Saudi Arabia. In 2021, the Jammu and Kashmir administration dismissed 11 government employees, including Salahuddin’s two sons, for their alleged terrorist relations and support to terrorism.

The case filed by the NIA in April 2011 is related to the transfer of money from Pakistan to Jammu and Kashmir through hawala channels via Delhi. Salahuddin was declared a specially designated global terrorist by the US State Department in June 2017. Apart from leading Hizbul Mujahideen, he is also the chairman of the Group of Terrorist Organizations active in Kashmir, the United Jihad Council.
