Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi Stalin on Friday appreciated the DMK government’s move to issue the State Education Policy (SEP) amid opposition to the National Education Policy (NEP). He demanded to bring education back to the state list. Addressing the people present in the Anna Shatabdi Library Auditorium, Stalin said, “Education was first in the state list, then it was converted into a concurrent list. Stalin said that today I feel proud when our Chief Minister released the state’s education policy. Today is an educational and knowledge festival. Tamil Nadu is creating history today. Our Tamils were taught in the Sangam Yuga, but they were denied it in between. Efforts are being made not only then, but still to destroy our education. Recalling Periyar’s opposition to Kul Kalvi Yojana (amended scheme of primary education), the Deputy Chief Minister said that the Center is trying to implement the same alleged controversial scheme which was opposed under the NEP.
Stalin said that Kuka Kalvi Yojana (amended scheme of primary education) was opposed by our leader Periyar, and protests were held, and then the plan was released. Now, the central government is trying to impose the Kuka Kalvi scheme through the new education policy. Our Chief Minister had said with perseverance and courage that we will not accept the new education policy and we will have our own separate education policy. He praised Chief Minister MK Stalin for taking a tough stand against the new education policy and implementation of the new education policy in Tamil Nadu.

Udayanidhi said, “The Union Minister had said that you should implement a new education policy and three language policy in our education, otherwise no funds will be released to the state. But our Chief Minister opposed it and remained adamant on dual language.” The move has been taken after the Month protests against the National Education Policy (NEP) promoted by the Center. The DMK -led Tamil Nadu government has been continuously opposing NEP and has been calling it an attempt to impose “against social justice” and the state. Tamil Nadu has refused to implement the NEP.
