Tihar Jail officials opposed Rana’s application to his family members to talk on telephone. Rana is allegedly a close associate of 26/11 chief conspirator David Coleman Headley alias Dawood Gilani, who is an American citizen.
A Delhi court on Thursday allowed Tawwur Hussain Rana, accused of the 26/11 Mumbai attack, to talk to his family members for a limited objective of discussing the appointment of a private lawyer. Court sources gave this information. He said that Special Judge Chandrajit Singh passed this order while hearing in a closed room. Currently, Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) advocate Piyush Sachdeva is the legal aid advisor.

Earlier, Tihar Jail officials had opposed Rana’s application to his family members on telephone. Rana is allegedly a close associate of 26/11 chief conspirator David Coleman Headley alias Dawood Gilani, who is an American citizen. Rana was brought to India on 4 April after the US Supreme Court dismissed his reconsideration petition against India extradition. On 26 November 2008, a group of 10 Pakistani terrorists attacked a railway station, two luxury hotels and a Jewish center and entered the financial capital of India by sea route. A total of 166 people were killed in this attack which lasted for about 60 hours.
