On Thursday, a criminal wanted in several cases of murder was injured in an encounter with a special work force (STF) in several cases of murder near Shivrajpur intersection in Shankargarh police station area of Prayagraj.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash said that STF had received reliable intelligence that ‘History Sheeter’ Ashish Ranjan alias ‘Chhotu Singh’, a resident of Dhanbad in Jharkhand, is going to Prayagraj to carry out a major criminal crime with one of his companions.
He said that on the basis of this confidential information, a team of Prayagraj unit of STF reached near Shivrajpur intersection to catch the accused. During this time, the accused Ashish Ranjan passed away by the STF passed by the STF, he started firing indiscriminately on the STF team with AK-47 rifle and 9mm pistol.
Yash said that three STF personnel JP Rai, Prabhanjan and Rohit narrowly survived in this firing. Ranjan was shot in retaliation. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
He said that the STF recovered an AK-47 rifle, 9mm pistol, huge quantity of cartridges and a motorcycle from the scene. Further legal proceedings and investigation are on.
