At around 1:45 pm on Tuesday afternoon, at least four people died and more than 50 people are missing in the horrific landslide due to a powerful cloudburst in Dharali village of Uttarkashi, about 4 kilometers from the Indian Army camp at Harsil. Due to this landslide, all road connectivity of the holy Gangotri Dham has been lost. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the accident. He wrote on X that I wish for the skill of all the victims. I have spoken to Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami ji and got information about the situation. Relief and rescue teams are engaged in every possible effort under the supervision of the state government. There is no stone unturned to provide help to the people. The Chamoli police said that the road has been blocked due to debris near Pagnala and Bhanerpani on Badrinath National Highway (NH-58). The work of removing debris and smoothing the road is going on.
The police further stated that the Jyotirmath-Malari motor road has been swept away near Saladhar. Passengers and local residents are requested not to travel unnecessarily. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that the disturbing scenes of the devastation caused by the sudden floods in Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand) have seen. I wish the people affected by this tragedy. The central and state governments are working together and are taking all possible steps to save valuable life. JP Nadda wrote that the news of many casualties due to a sudden cloudburst in Dharali village in Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand is very heartbreaking.
