Outcry in Pakistan due to floods and rain, 299 people killed so far, 140 children also join

Since the end of June, there has been an outcry due to sudden floods and torrential rains in many parts of Pakistan. According to Dawn’s report, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that at least 299 people, including 140 children, have died and more than 700 people were injured due to floods and rains. The NDMA said that this flood, which started from 26 June, has “caused havoc across the country.” The dead include 102 men, 57 females and 140 children, while the injured include 239 children, 204 females and 272 men.

According to Dawn, this fierce weather has also damaged 1,676 houses – 562 of which have been completely destroyed and 1,114 have been partially damaged. 428 livestock was also killed due to floods, causing the difficulties of affected communities to increase further. The NDMA has confirmed that it has carried out 223 rescue operations and successfully evacuated 2,880 people from flood affected areas. According to Dawn’s report, relief operations include distribution of more than 13,400 essential items, including 2,000 tents, 958 blankets, 569 rajis, 613 mattresses and more than 1,100 dining packets.

In addition, the authorities have provided 1,282 kitchen sets, 350 life jackets, 1,122 hygiene kits, 2,170 tarpaulin and 146D-wattering pumps. Medical assistance is also being provided, 71 camps have been set up, where 577 people have been treated so far. According to Dawn’s report, the NDMA reported that many areas are still affected and joint campaigns are being carried out with the provincial and federal agencies.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has estimated rain, wind and thunderstorms in the northern regions from August 4 to August 7. During this period, there is a possibility of rain in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Islamabad, while Gilgit-Baltistan is expected to rain from August 5. Balochistan will have mostly warm and humid conditions, on August 6, some rainfall is expected in its northeastern and southern parts. Sindh is also expected to remain hot and humid, light rain will occur in coastal areas.
