Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to immediately and unconditional ceasefire to end the ongoing border struggle for several days. The development occurred after Malaysia offered an arbitration in the Thailand-Kambodia conflict, which is the most severe struggle of a decade. South-East Asian neighboring countries have accused each other of starting a fight last week, and then extended it further with heavy artillery shelling and Thai airstrikes on their 817 km long ground border. Tensions between the two countries have increased since the assassination of a Cambodian soldier during a brief clash in late May.

Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand acting Prime Minister Fummatha Vachayachai participated in an arbitration talks with Chinese and US ambassadors at Ibrahim’s residence in Putrajaya, Malaysia. Manett wrote on X that the purpose of this meeting is to get the ‘ceasefire’ immediately, which has been initiated by US President Donald Trump and has agreed by the Prime Ministers of Cambodia and Thailand. On July 26, Trump said both Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to the ceasefire talks and the two countries want to resolve their differences. The US President spoke to the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia over the weekends and told them that they would not do business agreements with them until they end the fight.

Ibrahim proposed that after the border dispute turned into a deadly conflict on July 24, Malaysia could hold a ceasefire talks with Cambodia and Thailand, and China and the US also offered assistance in talks. Even after the announcement of peace talks by Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia reported clashes in border areas on Monday. More than 30 people have died in this struggle, which has been going on for five days, including 13 citizens in Thailand and eight in Cambodia. Officials said more than 2,00,000 people have been evacuated from the border areas of both countries.
