Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday interacted with a group of villagers in a tree shade and took his suggestions to create Rangla Punjab. The Chief Minister also informed the villagers about the major initiative of the Aam Aadmi Party -led government.
Neither sofas were installed nor the formalities of the government protocol for this meeting. The villagers openly interacted with Maan and shared their views with them. Mann interacted with the villagers on the political, social and other issues of the state.
The Chief Minister said that when he took over, only 21 percent of the canal water was being used for irrigation, but now it has increased to 63 percent. He said that for the first time due to the concerted efforts of the state government, the water of the canal and rivers has reached the end of the villages.
Maan told the farmers that to avoid the problems caused in selling paddy crop due to excess of moisture in October, the state government has also changed the paddy cultivation session. He said that for this, along with necessary schemes and arrangements in the state, cultivation of paddy has been ensured.
Mann said that he had called the Union Food Minister and urged that the purchase of paddy should start from September 15 so that the farmers of the state can easily sell their crops and without any problems.
He said that this will be able to bring moistureless grains to the farmers mandis and their purchase will be ensured smoothly. On the issue of drug threat, he said that the drug mafia was allegedly protected by the previous governments, but his government launched a campaign against drugs.
On the issue of water crisis, he said that out of 153 blocks, ground water has gone into ‘Black Dark Zone’. Expressing concern over the grand weddings happening in the state, Mann said that they are putting heavy burden on the pockets of common farmers. Advocating simplicity weddings, the Chief Minister said that this is the demand of the hour so that the farmers can be taken out of the vicious cycle of debt.
He said that farmers should come out of the race to spend extravagance. The farmers were surprised by Mann’s arrival in their fields, who said that in the last 70 years they have seen for the first time that the head of the state came among them to discuss important issues.
