A new mode has come in Bihar politics. Former minister Tej Pratap Yadav, who recently expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal, has announced that he will contest as an independent candidate from Mahua seat in Vaishali district in the upcoming assembly elections. Tej Pratap Yadav is currently an MLA from Hasanpur seat in Samastipur district.
Speaking to reporters at his residence on Saturday evening, Tej Pratap made his intentions clear. He said, ‘Yes, this time I will contest from Mahua assembly seat as an independent candidate. My opponents must have started itching. He claimed that he is getting full support from the public and a large number of people are joining his social media platform called ‘Team Tej Pratap Yadav’, through which they are reaching the people.

Nitish Kumar targeted
Tej Pratap Yadav also targeted Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He claimed that Nitish Kumar would not be able to save his post of Chief Minister after the assembly elections. He said, ‘I am confident that’ uncle ‘(Nitish) will not become the Chief Minister … Those who will form the government, if they talk about youth, employment, education and health, Tej Pratap Yadav will stand with them.’ This statement reflects their own terms about the political direction of Bihar’s future.
Discovery and family dispute
Tej Pratap Yadav was expelled from RJD for six years by his father Lalu Prasad Yadav for six years. This expulsion took place a day earlier when he allegedly confessed to being in a ‘relationship’ with a woman named Anushka on social media. However, he later removed the Facebook post saying that his page had become ‘hacked’. Lalu Prasad also abandoned him due to Tej Pratap’s ‘irresponsible behavior’.
A few days after the expulsion of the party, Tej Pratap alleged that the ‘conspiracy’ to create a rift between him and his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav was being hatched. He expressed his feelings in some posts on his X (first Twitter) handle and blamed ‘Jaichand’ for this crisis, which is a metaphor of traitors.

Political future and family legacy
This expulsion of Tej Pratap took place a few months before the Bihar assembly elections, which will be fought under the leadership of RJD Tejashwi Yadav. Born at the house of former Chief Ministers of Bihar, Lalu Prasad and Rabdi Devi, these two brothers are four of the nine siblings active in politics. Tej Pratap Yadav made his political debut in the 2015 assembly elections and is the second time MLA. He has also performed a brief tenure in the state cabinet twice.
