Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, as an initiative of peace talks with India, has reiterated Islamabad’s desire to negotiate several issues from business and economic cooperation to anti-terrorism. However, Dar also said that the ball is now in India’s court and Pakistan is still waiting for a formal response from New Delhi. During a conversation with the Atlantic Council Think Tank, Dar said that Pakistan is ready to work and cooperate with India on all fronts from trade to terrorism.

He emphasized the need for “meaningful dialogue” and called for a re-introduction of overall negotiations, which was once used by both countries to remove bilateral concerns including Kashmir, security, exchange and economic relations between people.
Dar’s proposal came immediately after Operation Sindoor, in which India attacked nine terrorist bases in Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack. 26 innocent tourists were mercilessly murdered in the Basaron Valley in the Pahalgam attack. On the issue of recent tension between India and Pakistan, Dar met the United States Foreign Minister Marco Rubio in Washington to discuss bilateral relations, business cooperation, regional stability, resistance and global peace initiatives. He appreciated the important role played by US President Donald Trump and Rubio in reducing the tension between countries by providing the facility of ceasefire and postponing widespread conflict between two nuclear-head states.

The statement came at a time when India has been continuously saying that the ceasefire agreement was a bilateral decision between the Indian and the Pakistani military leadership, with no partnership of any third party. On the terrorism front, the Foreign Minister also appeared to change his stand on the United States decision to nominate The Resection Front (TRF) as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) and a specially designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).
