Iran Terrorist Attack: Very big terrorist attack, 8 killed, 13 injured in Iran’s Jahidan

A deadly terrorist attack occurred in southeast Iran when armed militants attacked a judicial building in Zahedan, the capital of Sistan-Balochistan province. According to Iranian government media, at least eight people were killed in this attack, including five civilians and three attackers. The Sunni terrorist group Jaish al-Aadal, who operates in the turbulent region, has taken responsibility for the attack through a statement quoted by the semi-government Fars News Agency. Eyewitnesses stated that the sounds of firing and explosions around the court were heard, and there are indications that the attack could involve a suicide bomber.

According to the news portal Mizan Online, the gunmen attacked the chambers of the judges inside the judiciary premises at Central Zahedan. Meher news agency and Iran’s official news service Irna have confirmed that at least 13 people have been injured and have been admitted to the hospital. HAAALVSH, a human rights organization monitoring the Baloch region, said that several judicial officers and security personnel were killed or injured during the attack. Security forces immediately retaliated and managed to neutralize the attackers. Officials have confirmed the killing of three terrorists during the encounter.

The Sistan-Balochistan province on the border of Iran with Pakistan and Afghanistan has long been the center of caste, religious and political unrest. The region is mainly home to the Sunni Muslim Baloch minorities, who have often expressed their complaints about economic margins and lack of political representation. The terrorist group declared by Iran has been involved in several major attacks targeting Iranian security forces and government institutions in the past. The group claims to fight for the rights of Sunni minorities in Iran, but Tehran also accuses it of having a relationship with foreign powers and drug trafficking and joining the border terrorism. Iranian officials have strongly condemned the attack and described it as a terrorist act done with the intention of destabilizing national security.
