The Supreme Court on Thursday reprimanded the Karnataka High Court for giving bail to Kannada actor Darshan Thugudipa in the Renukavami murder case. The Supreme Court said that the High Court has misused its judicial power.Earlier on July 17, the Supreme Court had questioned actor Darshan on the bail given by the High Court. During this time it was said that it seems that the High Court did not use its conscience properly. Currently, the Supreme Court has reserved its decision on cancellation of the actor’s bail.

Darshan was granted bail by the High Court on 13 December 2024 in the Renukavamy murder case, after which he was released from jail. Against this, the Karnataka government challenged the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court in March.
A bench led by Justice BR Gavai strongly criticized the High Court and questioned whether the judicial discretion has been used in a judicial manner. The court asked, “We are sad to say this, but does the High Court give the same kind of order in all bail petitions?”We are having trouble with the attitude of the High Court. Look at the way this has been done. Is this an understanding of the High Court judge? If the session had been a judge, we could have understood. But how can a High Court judge make such a mistake? “
Describing it as “perverted use of Vivek”, the Supreme Court said that it was investigating whether the High Court had “used its conscience prudent before giving bail in such a serious case”. The bench said, “We will not repeat the High Court mistake. We are a bit serious because it is a case of murder and conspiracy.”
The court was hearing a petition filed by the state of Karnataka, which challenged the High Court order of the High Court to bail actor Darshan and others in the murder of 33 -year -old Renukaswamy.

The bench also made sharp comments during the hearing. Addressing the counsel of co-accused Pavitra Gowda, the bench said, “All this happened because of you. If you were not there, A2 would not have been interested in it. If A2 is not interested in it, others are not interested in it. Therefore, you are the root of this problem.”
The lawyer argued that he had received objectionable messages and there was no direct connection with his call records with the accused involved in the kidnapping or murder. But the court clarified that it was not investigating the “subtle arguments”. The bench said, “We have to see if the prosecution case raises confidence or not.”
The court also questioned how the High Court dismissed the eyewitness statements of Kiran and Puneet working as guards. The bench asked, “Why does the High Court say that they are not reliable witnesses?” “Our last question: How has the High Court dealing with both these statements using its conscience?”
Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for the state, said that call data records, location pins, clothing and vehicle DNA and other material statements support. He said, “All these things have been confirmed.”
The bench also questioned the nature of the evidence obtained from an accused. The court asked, “You had recovered a mobile phone from the accused number 10. Why would anyone take pictures of the attack?”
What was the whole matter?
According to police investigation, the 33 -year -old deceased Renukaswamy was a fan of actor Darshan. In January 2024, Kannada actress Pavitra Gowda celebrated her tenth wedding anniversary with Darshan. This made their relationship in controversies, as Darshan was already married.
Renukaswamy was very upset with this news. He was constantly messaging Pavitra and asking him to stay away from philosophy. Initially, Pavitra ignored her messages, but later Renukaswamy started sending objectionable messages and threatening.
Subsequently, Pavitra instigated Darshan to kill Renukaswamy. He also asked him to punish him. With the help of his colleagues, Darshan got Renukaswamy kidnapped. They all took him to a warehouse, where he was tortured before his murder.According to the police, Darshan and his associates in the warehouse beat Renukaswamy badly, killing him. After the murder, the clothes of Darshan’s companions were stained with blood. He went to a nearby Reliance store, bought new clothes and replaced clothes from there.
