Birth and family
Devendra Fadnavis was born on 22 July 1970 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. He belongs to a Hindu Marathi family. His father’s name is Gangadhar Fadnavis and mother’s name is Sarita Fadnavis. Its father was working as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council from Nagpur, while the mother was the former director of Vidarbha Housing Credit Society.
Devendra Fadnavis was initially educated with the school Indira Convent in the name of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. During the Emergency, Fadnavis’s father Gangadhar was a member of Fadnavis Jana Sangh, so he joined the protest against the government and due to this he also had to go to jail. Devendra refused to study at Indira Convent when his father went to jail.
Devendra did not want to go to the school named after the PM, which Devendra blamed his father for going to jail. After this, Devendra studied at Saraswati Vidyalaya in Nagpur and then he enrolled in Dharampeth Junior College for higher education. He earned a graduation degree in the law and then did a post graduation in business management.
Political career
Devendra’s political career began in the mid -90s. He was an active member of the BJP -affiliated ABVP as a student. In 1992, at the age of 22, he became a corporator and then 5 years later, in 1997, at the age of 27, he became the youngest mayor of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. At the same time, he became the second youngest mayor in the history of India.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra
In 1999, Fadnavis is representing Nagpur in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He worked as the 18th CM of Maharashtra from 31 October 2014 to 12 November 2019. He became the second youngest CM in the history of the state after Sharad Pawar. From 2019 to 2022, he was the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. From 2013 to 2015, he was also the president of Maharashtra State Unit of BJP. However, Devendra Fadnavis had to resign in November 2019 due to political crisis. In December 2024, Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as CM of the state for the third time.
