Sansad Diary: Operation vermilion, sir, ceasefire … Mahasangram on the very first day of monsoon session

On the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament, there was a sharp noise between the Center and the opposition on Monday. Opposition MPs demanded a discussion on the claims of US President Donald Trump regarding Operation Sindoor. The day’s proceedings saw fierce slogans and debates. The proceedings of the lower house were postponed twice within an hour, while the Rajya Sabha had a sharp debate between Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and BJP President JP Nadda. Rajnath Singh in the Lok Sabha and JP Nadda in Rajya Sabha said that the government is ready to discuss every issue. At the same time, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha accused the ruling party of not letting him speak in Parliament. Notices related to the proposal to remove Judge Yashwant Verma surrounded by allegations of corruption were given in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Monday.

Lok Sabha proceedings

The Lok Sabha proceedings on Monday were adjourned for the day after a three -time adjournment due to the uproar of the opposition members. Members of the opposition parties in the House created a ruckus demanding discussion on other topics including Pahalgam terror attack, mediation claims of US President Donald Trump and exercise of special intensive revision (SIR) of voter list in Bihar.
Notices related to the proposal to remove Judge Yashwant Verma surrounded by allegations of corruption were given in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Monday. A total of 145 members have been signed by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, Anurag Thakur, including the notice submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Notices under Articles 124, 217 and 218 are given in the lower house.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday told the opposition members who are creating a ruckus in the House in a warning tone that if they have to raise slogans, they should go out of the House as it is not appropriate to do so within the House. Om Birla said that the incident of Pahalgam terror attack has hurt the consciousness of the whole world. Birla also said that the House also repeats the resolve of India’s ‘zero tolerance’ (not tolerate) about terrorism.

Rajya Sabha proceedings

The Rajya Sabha on Monday passed the ‘Varna Patra Bill 2025’ related to the vessel transport sector, which provides for a new law in place of the original law of the British era. Responding to the discussion on the bill in the House, the port, vessel transport and waterways minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this ministry has achieved remarkable achievement in the last 10-11 years and the major leaves of the country have been connected smoothly from rail and roadways.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar informed the Upper House on Monday that Sanjeev Arora of Aam Aadmi Party has resigned from the membership of the House which has been accepted. On the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament, on Monday, the Chairman apprised the House about Arora’s resignation.
Civil Aviation Minister K.K. Rammohan Naidu said in the Rajya Sabha on Monday that the Air India Aircraft Investigation Bureau (AAIB), investigating the Air India aircraft accident in Ahmedabad last month, is a completely fair agency and is conducting detailed and concrete investigation under the rules. In response to the supplementary questions during the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Naidu said that AAIB gave initial investigation report ten days after the aircraft accident. He said that the investigation process is going on according to international standards.

On the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament, after the commencement of the meeting of the Upper House today, Virendra Prasad Vaishya of the Assam Gana Parishad, BJP’s Kanad Purastha, nominated Dr. Meenakshi Jain, C Sadanandan Master and Harshvardhan Shringla were administered the oath of membership of Rajya Sabha. The Chairman gave a brief introduction to these members.
