Punjab’s Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said on Sunday that 21 children begging from Ludhiana and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar districts have been rescued. He said that the state government is running a special campaign to make Punjab beggars free.
Officials said on Thursday (July 17, 2025), “With the aim of preventing their exploitation to child trafficking and begging, the Punjab government has directed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to conduct DNA tests of children found begging with adults on the streets to confirm their relationship.” Now Punjab’s Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said on Sunday that 21 children begging from Ludhiana and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar districts have been rescued.

He said that the state government is running a special campaign to make Punjab beggars free. He said that 18 children were rescued from bus stand, railway station and other places in Ludhiana and three from SBS Nagar. In a statement, Kaur was quoted as saying that the saved children have been presented before the Child Welfare Committee and sent safely to the Children’s Home. If investigation reveals that someone forced them to beg, strict action will be taken against him.

There is no notice of begging from other districts. The minister appealed to the people not to beg the child monks and give information on 1098 on the appearance of these children.
