The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the residence of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel at Bhilai in Durg district on Friday. Baghel’s office claimed that the action was taken because the issue of harvesting of trees for a coal mine project in Tamanar tehsil of Raigad was to be raised by his party on the last day of the monsoon session of Chhattisgarh Assembly on Friday.

However, immediate information about which case is related to this raid is not found immediately. Baghel’s office said in a post on its X handle, ED arrived. Today is the last day of the monsoon session of the assembly. For Adani, the issue of trees being cut in Tamanar was to rise today. Saheb has sent ED to Bhilai Niwas.

Baghel visited Tamanar Tehsil in Raigad district earlier this month and expressed support to the local villagers opposing the cutting of trees for the coal mine project. The mine is allocated to Maharashtra State Electricity Generation Company Limited, in which the contract of MDO (mine developer cum operator) has been given to the Adani Group.
CBI raided Bhupesh Baghel’s house in another case
Bhupesh Baghel does not have the only conflict with central investigative agencies in the alleged liquor scam. In March, he was also raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Mahadev betting app case. Baghel alleged that the raid was inspired by politics, and suggested that the raid was conducted to provide material for his speech before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on March 30.

ED allegations
The ED has alleged that a gang of government officials, politicians and liquor traders launched a scheme under which illegal recovery of about ₹ 2,161 crore was made from the sale of liquor in the state between 2019 and 2022.The alleged scam included manipulation in the liquor supply chain, where a gang controlled the sale and distribution of liquor through government shops. The agency has carried out several raids earlier, including raids on politicians and bureaucrats associated with the previous Congress government of Chhattisgarh.
