The student’s brother filed a complaint of cyber harassment
The student died in the hospital due to self -immolation in the college campus. The student’s brother lodged a complaint at Bhograi police station in Balasore district, where he named at least four people and alleged that the four people were harassing his family through ‘digital’ forums.
Demanding action against four persons named in the complaint, the brother also threatened that the whole family would commit collective suicide if he did not get justice. He said in his complaint that derogatory comments are being made about his family on social media forums and some people are trying to take political advantage of this tragedy.
Governor and Chief Minister condoled untimely demise
Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati said that he is shocked to hear the news of the untimely demise of a young student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College. He said, “His death is not just a tragedy – it gives a clear reminiscent of the immediate need for the safety of our premises. The law will take its harsh steps. The responsible people will get rigorous punishment.”
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi said that despite the government’s tireless efforts to fulfill all the responsibilities and the team of expert doctors, their lives could not be saved.Majhi said, “I assure the family of the deceased student that all the culprits in this case will get strict punishment according to the law.”
