External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing along with other foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Speaking about the meeting, Jaishankar said that he made Xi Jinping aware of the events of India-China bilateral relations. This is Jaishankar’s first visit to China after a serious tension between the two neighboring countries following the 2020 military deadlock over the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh.

Jaishankar said in a post on X, “President Xi was apprised of the recent developments of our bilateral relations.” With this post, he also posted a picture shaking hands with Xi. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar greeted Chinese President Xi Jinping on behalf of President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also apprised the Chinese leader of recent developments in bilateral relations between India and China and emphasized that India gives importance to the guidance of the top leadership of the two countries in shaping its relations.

Earlier on Monday, Jaishankar, who reached Beijing on Monday, had a detailed conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing and spoke on the need for a visionary approach for bilateral relations.
‘New departure point of India-China relations’
The meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping took place a day after Jaishankar’s conversation with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing. According to Chinese government media Xinhua, the two leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and increasing cooperation. During the discussion, Vice President Han said that the meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi was successful in Kazan last October, which established “a new departure point” in China-India relations.
