8.4 percent decrease in crime in Delhi, decline in rape and poxo cases also recorded

Rape and Posco cases fell by 10 percent, with a decline of 8.38 percent in the overall crime compared to the same period of previous year in the first half of 2025 in the national capital. This information was given in the data of Delhi Police.

The data showed that a total of 1,18,822 cases were registered under the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) from January 1 to June 30, 2025, while 1,29,693 cases were registered in the same period of 2024.

According to the data, heinous crimes such as murder, rape, robbery and kidnapping have fallen by 13.13 percent compared to 2023 and 10.39 percent compared to 2024.

The data showed that the murder cases increased from 241 in the previous year to 250 in 2025, while cases of protection (poxo) of children from rape and sexual offenses fell by about 10 percent.

According to the data, crimes like harassment and tampering against women have also fallen by about 11 percent and 12.5 percent respectively. The incidents of ‘snatching’ fell 25.97 percent in 2024 cases in the first half of 2024 to 2,503 cases in 2025.

Similarly, there was a fall of 25.4 percent in cases of theft, which declined from 4,271 to 3,186 and motor vehicle theft declined by 5.98 percent to 18,626 to 17,512. The police credited the overall decline for increased monitoring, data-based patrolling, community contact and coordinated action against repeated crimes.
