Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday that the inclusion of Maratha Military Landscapes representing the Maratha rulers’s fortification system is a glorious moment for the state to include in the World Heritage List of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The decision was taken during the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) held in Paris.

The 12 forts of the Maratha rulers were given this status, including Salher Fort, Shivneri Fort, Lohgarh, Kanderi Fort, Raigad, Rajgarh, Pratapgarh, Swarnadurg, Panhala Fort, Vijay Durg and Sindhudurg and Jinji Fort in Tamil Nadu. Fadnavis said in a post on social media forum X, Maharashtra government salutes our beloved Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj !! Hearty congratulations to all the citizens and Shiva devotees of Maharashtra.

He said, I am very happy to say that 12 forts of our greatest king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said on Friday that the inclusion of 12 forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the UNESCO World Heritage List is a matter of historical and cultural importance and pride for the state. Pawar said that these forts are witness to the valor, sacrifice and foresight of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Maratha warriors and now their heritage will get recognition and respect globally.
