Two drug smugglers from Bangladesh have been arrested in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal and 10 kg of hemp, 100 bottles of banned phlegm syrup and a knife were recovered from them. The Border Security Force gave this information on Friday.
The BSF said in a statement that a BSF jawan was injured during an encounter with a gang of three to four Bangladeshi smugglers at around 1.50 pm on Thursday at the Tarali border post in the district.
It said that the soldiers of 143 battalions patrolling the border outpost Tarali-1 had to fire many bullets in the air for self-defense as the accused were constantly challenging the soldiers.
The BSF reported that two gang members were caught and taken to the outpost for questioning while two escaped. A BSF spokesperson said, “He was repeatedly flagged with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and told about the forced infiltration and the attacks being carried out by Bangladeshi criminals, but despite this no concrete action has been taken from them so far.” He said that BSF personnel are fully capable of protecting the borders and protecting the country under all circumstances.
