Nimisha Priya Death Sentence: Hanging in Yemen after 6 days! Last attempt to save Nimisha! Supreme Court ready for hearing

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petition seeking a ban on the hanging of Kerala nurse Nurse Priya in Yemen on July 16. The partial working bench of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Joymalya Bagchi initially agreed to list the case on 14 July. However, senior advocate Ragantha Basant said that since the date of hanging is July 16, the Government of India will have only two days left for diplomatic dialogue, which is probably not effective. He requested to list for hearing today or tomorrow.

According to Live Law, the lawyer said that please decide the date of today or tomorrow as the 16th is the death date. Time is also required through diplomatic medium. The petitioner, an organization called ‘Save Nimisha Priya Action Council’, had demanded the Center to instruct Yemen to ensure the release of Indian nurse from diplomatic mediums. Basant had demanded an immediate hearing on the petition. According to Live Law report, Basant argued that according to the Sharia law, if the victim’s relatives are willing to accept “blood donation”, a person can be released and this option can be interacted.

Asked by Justice Dhulia as to why Priya was sentenced to death, Basant replied, “I am an Indian citizen of Kerala. There was a nurse to work as a nurse. A local person started harassing me … and she was murdered. Indian nurse Priya was killed in 2017. The person was injected with unconsciousness, who was allegedly faced with the person and torture by the nurse.
