US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his Russian counterparts will meet in Malaysia on Thursday. This meeting is taking place at a time when questions are being raised on the severity of the Russian President over Moscow’s growing attacks and ceasefire and tension between Russia and Ukraine is increasing.
Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov will meet in Kuala Lumpur, where both are attending the annual conference of the regional platform of the South East Asian countries (ASEAN).
The conference brings all 10 members of ASEAN and their most important diplomatic partners including Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, European countries and the US on one platform.
This meeting is going to be held at a time when the US has resumed some supply of defensive weapons to Ukraine. Earlier this supply was stopped and Moscow welcomed it.
With the resumption of arms supply, Russia has intensified airstrikes on Ukraine and is expressing displeasure with US President Donald Trump Russian President Vladimir Putin. Rubio will also meet foreign ministers from other countries, many of which may face fees to be implemented from August 1.
