Kolkata city received torrential rains on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department says that there is a low pressure area on the western part of the Ganges. The rain will continue like this for the next few hours. It has rained so far – 45 mm in Alipur, 80 mm in Kankurgachi, 88 mm in Salt Lake/New Town, 93 mm in Barrackpore, 77 mm in North Kolkata Shyambazar.

Rainfall is expected in all districts of South Bengal on Tuesday. Winds are also expected to move at a speed of 30-40 kilometers per hour with rain. The Meteorological Department has informed that there is a monsoon line from Sriganganagar in Rajasthan to Varanasi, Daltonganj and Purulia. Due to this, heavy rains are expected at some places in Purulia and Jhargram on Tuesday. On Tuesday, there will be light to moderate rainfall in the districts of North Bengal. There is a warning of heavy rains in Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong and Alipurdar districts on Wednesday.
There were reports of waterlogging in many parts of Kolkata on Tuesday morning due to heavy rains in South West Bengal. Officials said that after overnight rains, the main parts of the metropolis and its neighboring areas were flooded, causing people to face a lot of trouble.

He said that there are reports of waterlogging in Shyambazar, Ultadanga, Dhakuria, Balliganj, Behala and parts of the EM bypass of Kolkata, Sector 5 of Sult Lake and parts of Howrah city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorm at most places in the region and heavy rainfall at some places. He said that there is a possibility of heavy rains in Western districts Purulia and Jhargram.
Fishermen have been advised not to go into the sea in view of the stormy season due to the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. IMD said in a bulletin, “Between 7 to 8 July, surface air speed around the West Bengal-Odisha coast and the Bay of North Bengal is expected to reach 35–45 km per hour, which can increase to 55 kmph. The position of the sea will be very bad. ”An official said that the municipal personnel are engaged in drainage efforts but more rains can cause obstruction.
