Officials said they did not expect the presence of such a large number of pilgrims on the first day, especially in view of the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April this year. This year unprecedented security measures have been taken to ensure smooth pilgrimage.

Officials said that the pilgrims left for the pilgrimage to the holy cave as soon as the Nunwan base camp at Pahalgam in Anantnag in South Kashmir and Baltal Aadhaar at Sonamarg in Ganderbal in Central Kashmir. The pilgrims left with the jayghosh of ‘Bam Bum Bhole’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev’. Despite further difficult journey on his faces, there were feelings of happiness.
