For the next year’s Assam assembly elections, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also started an aggressive campaign in his style, playing the bugle of election campaign. Let us tell you that the BJP -led Assam government has waged an intense legal operation for the identity and expulsion of “illegal Bangladeshi” citizens in recent months, as well as the illegal cattle slaughter and beef selling in the state are also being rapidly done. Not only this, the Assam government also successfully carried out a eviction campaign to remove encroachment from 82 bigha village pasture reserved (VGR) land in Nalbari district. Let us also tell you that during the recent Indo-Pak military confrontation, the government of Himant Biswa Sarma had made it clear that those who live in India will not be tolerated by the government of Himanta Biswa Sarma. Apart from this, the decision to give arms license to “natives” people recently was also seen as a strict step of Himant Biswa Sarma against illegal Bangladeshis.
As far as the campaign to identify illegal Bangladeshis and drive them away, let us tell you that Himanta Bisw Sarma government has re -activated the NRI (Assam’s expulsion) Act, 1950. This law empowers the Central Government and the District Magistrates to expel people who have come from outside India to Assam and whose presence is contrary to public interests. This legal route is far more effective than judicial processes and according to Chief Minister Sarma, recently the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court has also justified the route.

At the same time, Chief Minister Sarma has also linked security and illegal migration with “population balance”. The Chief Minister has also initiated strict action against illegal Bangla-speaking Muslims against land encroachment and the Assam Police is also strictly dealing with the incidents of meat. Let us tell you that about 200 people have been arrested in connection with the violation of the Assam Cattle Protection Act and more than 1.7 tonnes of suspected beef were seized across the state. According to Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Akhilesh Kumar Singh, a campaign was carried out in Assam on Tuesday to investigate the incidents of illegal slaughter of cattle and unauthorized beef in the restaurant. He said that the police have searched 178 hotels, restaurants and slaughterhouses in almost all the districts of Assam. He said that the campaign against the violation of the Act will continue in the coming days. Let us tell you that the consumption of beef in Assam is not illegal, but Assam Cattle Protection Act, 2021 ban the sale of cattle slaughter and beef in areas where Hindus, Jains and Sikhs are majority. These restrictions also apply in a radius of five kilometers of a temple or session (Vaishnava monastery).
In addition, the Assam government on Monday launched a eviction campaign to remove encroachment from 82 bigha village pasture reserved (VGR) land in Nalbari district. This campaign was launched in the morning under tight security in Bakarikuchi village under Barkhetri Revenue Area. District Commissioner Nibedan Das Patwari told reporters that the regional office issued a notice on June 3 asking the encroachers to vacate the VGR land, but they had gone to the Guwahati High Court. The High Court ordered that all the land of VGR be evacuated across the state. Let us tell you that the land reserved for grazing animals in villages is called VGR. The regional official said that a total of 452 bighas of land have been encroached but people have built houses on only 82 bighas of land. He said that the encroachers were using the rest of the land for fisheries and farming. Let us tell you that most of the government land in Assam is Bangladeshi Muslims.
Seeing the political situation in Assam at this time, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is looking politically strong but the opposition Congress is caught in a big religious. Actually, if she goes on to oppose Sarma’s campaigns, she is accused of being a “foreign supporter”. If she remains silent, her alleged secular form is affected. Let us also tell you that recently MP Gaurav Gogoi was appointed as the state president of the Congress, but the BJP is an attack on him with his wife of foreign origin.
However, overall, Himanta Bisw Sarma’s strategy is not only to unite the traditional voters of the BJP, but also to revive the political definition of the state. Including migration, identity, religion and safety, they are preparing a narrator that can get electoral benefits. However, due to the rapid development in Assam, all kinds of support from the center and almost the end of extremism, the image of the Chief Minister has also been created by a development man.
