Mandi CloudBurst Update | The death toll due to cloudburst in the market is 13, searching for 40 people missing continues

A few days after the devastation caused by heavy rains in the Kullu Valley, torrential rains and landslides caused many cloudbursts in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh have caused heavy havoc, at least 13 people killed and 34 are missing according to official figures. However, local people say that 14 bodies have been found so far and about 40 people are missing. The most damage has been done to the region due to the most damage, where the entire roads, bridges and houses have been washed away.

The district received 140.7 mm (mm) rainfall – which is 1,939 percent more than the average of 6.9 mm. About 13 percent of the average seasonal monsoon rainfall in Mandi fell in only 24 hours, causing flood -like conditions in the entire district. The State Disaster Management Authority has deployed teams in the area and rescue operations are on. About 80,000 people are suspected to be affected in the area.

On Tuesday, ten incidents of cloudburst occurred in various parts of Mandi district, three times a sudden flood and landslide at one place. Officials said two bodies were recovered this morning. Seven bodies were recovered from Gohar, five from Thunag and one from Karsog subdivision in Mandi district. More than 150 houses, 104 cattle sheds, 31 vehicles, 14 bridges and several roads were damaged in disasters.

The State Emergency Campaign Center (SEOC) reported that a total of 162 cattle were killed in the disasters, while 370 people, including 316 people, were rescued and five relief camps have been set up in Mandi. The Manali-Kelang route has been blocked due to floods and the traffic route has been converted from Rohtang Pass.

Officials said that the Border Roads Organization (BRO) has deployed people and machinery to clean the roads. The SEOC said that due to heavy rains, a total of 261 roads in the state are closed for traffic, out of which 186 are in Mandi district. 599 transformers and 797 water supply schemes have been disrupted due to floods.

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur visited the affected areas on Wednesday. Sukhu assured the local people that if any government land is available nearby, it will be allotted to those who have lost their houses.
