This historic step taken for the first time in Supreme Court, SC/ST employees will get 22.5% quota

In a historic decision with the aim of promoting social justice and inclusion, the Supreme Court of India has officially implemented reservation policy for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in direct recruitment and promotion to the posts of non-judicial employees. This step is the first time the Supreme Court has adopted such a policy by connecting itself with other public institutions and several High Courts.

SC-ST reservation now effective in SC staff appointments
On June 24, 2025, a circular issued to all the employees of the Supreme Court gives details of the implementation of the new reservation policy, which will be applicable from June 23, 2025.

15% posts will be reserved for SC candidates
7.5% posts will be reserved for ST candidates
Reservation applies only to the posts of administrative and assistant employees, not judges. The posts affected by this policy include Registrar, Senior Private Assistant, Assistant Librarian, Junior Court Assistant, Junior Court Attendant, Chamber Attendant and other similar roles.
