After heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a warning of landslides. 18 out of 22 places in the state are under warning and are currently in danger of landslides. Continuous rains have disrupted power supply in about 130 areas and affect the supply of water in the entire state.
More than 250 roads across the state also closed due to rain
Due to continuous rains, more than 250 roads have also been closed across the state, with the most damage in Sirmaur and Mandi districts, where 57 and 44 roads have been blocked respectively. Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has directed the deputy commissioners of Kangra, Mandi, Sirmaur and Solan districts to close schools on June 30, as the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rains. After overnight rains on the Shimla-Kalka railway line, the services remained postponed for hours until the debris and trees were removed from the tracks, which further increased the problems of the people.
Several rain -related incidents also came to light across the state, due to which three people died in the last 24 hours, causing the total number of people who died in the state since the onset of monsoon.
Cloud burst in Mandi district, 12 people missing, one person dies
One person died and about 12 people went missing in the sudden floods due to cloudburst and heavy rains in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Officials gave this information on Tuesday. Mandi has received 216.8 mm of rain from Monday evening. Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorva Devgan told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that one person has died, while 12 to 13 people are missing. One person’s death is reported in Karsog, while about seven people from two families are missing in Sianj of Mandi. Devgan said that cloudburst and sudden floods after heavy rains have caused heavy damage to many places in the district, due to which many people have been evacuated to safe places. There are reports of damage to homes and agricultural land. Roads and vehicles have been swept away in villages of Purana Bazaar (Panjrat), Kutti, Bral, Mumal and Bhiyal of Karsog.
Water entered the houses of residents
Many houses, cowsheds, horses, cattle and goats have been swept away due to heavy rains in Sythi village of Longni Panchayat of Mandi, while water has entered the houses of the residents in the Patri power project near Pandoh. All the rivers and drains in the district are in spate and more than one and a half lakh cusecs of water has been released from the Pandoh dam on the Beas river. The water level of Pandoh Dam has reached 2,941 feet against the danger mark 2,922 feet.
The Chandigarh-Manali four-lane route is currently blocked at many places including Dwada, Jhalogi and Banala, while the Kamand-Katula-Bajaura route is only open to light motor vehicles (LMVs). The Mandi police said that the common people have been advised to avoid travel unless they are very necessary. About 15 migrants trapped in floods were rescued from Khairi Gram Panchayat in Sujanpur and the Reserve Battalion Jungleberry and police team are engaged in rescue operations.
After heavy rains, the district administration of Mandi and Hamirpur has ordered the closure of schools on Tuesday. However, according to the local people, the students had already reached the school due to non -receipt of information about this effect in Hamirpur district. The Meteorological Department has warned of light to moderate floods in the six districts – Chamba, Hamirpur, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur and parts of Solan in the next 24 hours.
