The ICC has announced the new powerplay rules in T20. These rules will apply to the overs cutting due to rain or any other reason. The duration of the powerplay will be fixed according to the ball for the over. According to the current rules, there are 6 overs powerplays in the innings of 20 overs. In some cases when the match is short, round off to the powerplay over many times creates a big difference.
According to the new rules to be implemented in July 2025, there will now be a powerplay of 2.2 overs in the 8 -over match. This means that there will be 2 fielders outside the 30 yard up to 14 balls. The 9 -over match will have a 2.4 -over powerplay. This keeps the ratio close to 30 percent. Similarly, 1.3 overs will be of powerplay in the innings of five overs.
According to the table given on the ICC website, 1.5 overs will be of Powerplay in the 6 -over match, 2.1 overs will be of powerplay in 7 overs. Three overs will be of Powerplay in the innings of 10 overs. In the 11 -over innings, 3.2 overs will be of powerplay, while in the innings of 12 overs, 3.4 overs will be of powerplay.
According to the ICC, there will be a powerplay of 3.5 overs for the innings of 13 overs, a powerplay of 4.1 overs for the innings of 14 overs, a powerplay of 4.3 overs for 15 overs and a powerplay of 4.5 over for 16 overs. The ICC has also brought a stop clock to deal with the slow over rate in Test cricket. Apart from this, there has also been a change in the rules for spitting on the ball.
